Bob is a co-founder and the principal partner responsible for the development of ALTA's Bioanalytical LCMS Services Group. He has accumulated over 25 years of experience in mass spectrometry at a variety of research and production environments, including four years at the NIH Facility for Mass Spectrometry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and with Finnigan MAT as a support specialist for Far East Operations.
Since 1987, Bob has been dedicated to the application of LC/MS/MS to the quantitation of small molecules and their polar metabolites in a wide variety of complex matrices. His early work using thermospray for the quantitation of herbicides in soil led to some of the first LC/MS/MS data ever submitted to a regulatory agency in support of product re-registration in accordance with GLP guidelines. He also developed the first LC/MS/MS methods to be used by the State of California for broad scale groundwater monitoring. Since 1992, Bob has focused on the application of novel sample preparation, automated analysis and data reporting systems used for the high throughput quantitative analysis of drugs and metabolites in biological matrices.
Bob has been a member of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) since 1988. He organized an ASMS Fall Workshop on "Limits to Confirmation, Quantitation and Detection" in 1996 and participated with an on-going focus group that subsequently led to the publication of "Establishing the Fitness for Purpose of Mass Spectrometric Methods" (JASMS Report, 2003). Bob is currently an instructor for an ASMS short course for "Quantitative Mass Spectrometry". He is also a member of the American Chemical Society (ACS), the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), and the Society for Quality Assurance (SQA).
